Renewed Austrian support strengthens the ICC Trust Fund for Victims

Austria, a State Party to the International Criminal Court (ICC), has made a voluntary contribution of EUR 200,000 to the Trust Fund for Victims (TFV) in 2026, reaffirming its commitment to international justice and to the rights of victims of crimes under the Rome Statute. Of this amount, EUR 100,000 will support survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). The remaining EUR 100,000 will be used to redress the harm suffered by victims, through reparation awards ordered by the ICC and other programmes for their benefit.

Austria’s contribution advances the TFV’s mandate to make the plight of victims visible, mobilise resources for their benefit, and implement programmes that respond to their needs. These efforts include implementing ICC-ordered reparations and delivering assistance programmes that address the physical, psychological, and material harm experienced by victims and affected communities.

Mr. Kevin Kelly, member of the Board of Directors of the TFV, said: “Austria’s voluntary contribution is essential in recognising and responding to the harms suffered by SGBV victims. Austria’s steadfast support is of critical importance to the work of the TFV. I applaud the Government of Austria for continuing to champion efforts to help rebuild the lives of the survivors of the most serious crimes of international concern."

H. E. Engelbert Theuermann, Ambassador of Austria to the Kingdom of the Netherlands stated: “The Trust Fund for Victims plays an essential role in providing victims of the most serious crimes with reparative justice and tangible outcomes. Especially in challenging times for the Court, it is vital to remember that victims are at the core of international justice. In this spirit, Austria is pleased to renew its support to the Trust Fund through its voluntary contribution, including particular support for survivors of SGBV. In doing so, Austria reaffirms the importance of a victim-centered approach and its steadfast commitment to the work of the TFV.”

Austria has provided voluntary contributions to the TFV on an annual basis since 2007, demonstrating its  long-standing commitment to supporting victims of the most serious crimes of international concern. Austria's 2026 contribution highlights its sustained partnership with the TFV and its continued dedication to strengthening support for victims of Rome Statute crimes.

Background information about the Trust Fund for Victims

Voluntary contributions to the TFV enable the delivery of the reparative mandate of the ICC by funding services and activities that provide recognition, commemoration and material support through rehabilitative programmes.

The TFV appeals to States Parties and other entities to contribute to the delivery of reparations to victims in urgent need, particularly in relation to the Ntaganda and Ongwen cases. The annual programme funding target of the TFV is set at a minimum of EUR 10 million.

Contributions to the TFV qualify as Official Development Assistance (ODA)-eligible. TFV programmes for the benefit of victims of crimes under the jurisdiction of the ICC contribute to the broader impact of several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including peace, justice, and strong institutions (SDG 16), poverty reduction (SDG 1), good health and well-being (SDG 3), gender equality (SDG 5), decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), reduced inequalities (SDG 10), and climate action (SDG 13).
