At the end of 2018, Slovakia provided its first voluntary contribution of €15,000 to the Trust Fund for Victims (TFV) at the International Criminal Court (ICC). The Government of Slovakia joined other 30 States Parties in 2018 to provide its financial support for the TFV to implement reparations awards and assistance to victims of ICC crimes.

“The focus on victims has been an essential element of international criminal justice. It is Slovakia´s firm view that the Court’s role is not only to bring perpetrators to justice but equally to deliver justice to those primarily affected by crimes committed, thus contributing to sustainable peace and post-conflict reconciliation.”

H.E Michal Mlynár, Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the United Nations, and Vice-President of the ICC Assembly of the States Parties

“The Trust Fund for Victims welcomes the first voluntary contribution from Slovakia. With this support the TFV can continue providing much needed assistance to the most vulnerable victims and survivors who have suffered from the ICC crimes. We call for other European States Parties to follow Slovakia to provide their political, moral and financial support for the benefit of victims to receive their right for remedy and rebuild their lives.“

Mr Gocha Lordkipanidze, Board member of the Trust Fund for Victims, and

Deputy Minister, Ministry of Justice of Georgia

In 2002, the TFV was established under the Rome Statute, in order to support recovery and resilience for victims of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression.

The mission of the TFV is to respond  to  the  harm  resulting  from  the crimes  within  the  jurisdiction  of  the  ICC  by  ensuring  the  rights  of  victims  and  their families  through  the  provision  of  reparation and assistance programmes for them to return to  a  dignified  and  contributory  life  within their communities.
